Klondyke Millennium Trail

The Klondyke Millennium Trail is a community recreation trail located in the heart of the community of Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada. The sightseeing route follows Front Street and the banks of the Yukon River right into the core centre of the community.

Dawson City photo galleryThe 2.5 to 3.0 kilometre Dike Walkway (depending on where you start) follows on top of a raised dyke which acts as a barrier separating and protecting the community of Dawson City from the Yukon River.

It is hard to tell but it looks like the south end of the walkway begins near the confluence of the Yukon and Klondike Rivers at the lookout - which is near or close to the west end of Craig Street in Dawson City.

The Dike Walkway is well maintained and well used. Activities like hiking, walking, sightseeing, picnicking, canoeing, flight seeing and heritage tours can be enjoyed while exploring along the walkway.

The Dike Walkway is more developed in the downtown centre of Dawson City. The walkway is easily accessible as it is across the street from some of the main attractions, stores and shops in the community. The SS Keno - one of the more popular attractions in Dawson City - is located right on the Dike Walkway.

In the downtown core, near the walkway, is a gathering place for tourists and locals. There are large sections of grass lawns to lounge on, flower gardens to admire, picnic tables, sightseeing benches, viewing platforms, a gazebo, viewpoints and many interpretive signs.

On the north end of the walkway is the MV George Black Ferry. It is a free ferry service crossing the Yukon River connecting travelers with the Top of the World Highway.

Along the Dike Walkway, prior to the MV George Black Ferry Terminal in Dawson City, is floatplane base and a canoe put-in point accessing the Yukon River. The canoe put in is near the end of Albert Street. The floatplane base is between King and Queen Streets.
