Activities enjoyed in the Kakisa River Day Use Area include picnicking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, boating and fishing. Fishing is for arctic grayling. There is a boat launch. A fishing licence is required to fish in the N.W.T.
There is a trail in the Kakisa Day Use Area for hiking. The single track trail follows the river bank and eventually connects to Lady Evelyn Falls. Lady Evelyn Falls is one of the monstrous waterfalls located on the Waterfall Highway Route.
In the Kakisa River Day Use Area are some amenities. There are picnic tables, picnic shelters, fire pits, a boat launch, firewood, viewing benches and pit toilets. However the day use area is only open with services during the summer months between May and September.
The small Dene First Nation community of Kakisa is located near the day use area. Follow the Lady Evelyn Falls gravel road towards the campground to the small village. There are a few services important to travelers in the village including a motel, general store and gas station.
