Meewasin Valley Trail
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada

Meewasin Valley Trail is a network of popular recreation trails which explore the river valley on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River located in the community of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

The Meewasin Valley Trail measures 60+ kilometres and connects to many of the Saskatoon riverfront parks, promenades, recreation facilities, heritage sites, picnic day use sites, lookouts, attractions and more.

canonrebelThe activities enjoyed on the Meewasin Valley Trail include hiking, jogging, roller blading, biking and cross country skiing. Large sections of the trail are wheelchair and baby stroller friendly.

The activities accessed from the trail and the South Saskatchewan River include picnicking, birdwatching, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and boating.

The trail system follows both the east and west banks of the South Saskatchewan River. The main trail is mostly paved and the secondary side trails branching off the main trail are gravel, pebble and/or sand. Parts of the main trail form part of the TCT (Trans Canada Trail).

During the winter months, after the snow falls and the landscape is covered in a sheet of white, sections of the Meewasin Valley Trail become xc ski routes and a local hill becomes a toboggan destination.

On the west bank of the South Saskatchewan River the Meewasin Valley Trail connects to a series of parks and "points of interest". The parks include Victoria Park, Friendship Park, Kiwanis Memorial Park, Kinsmen Park, Mendal Riverbank, Archibald Park, Capilano Lookout and the Meewasin Park.

On the east bank of the South Saskatchewan River the Meewasin Valley Trail connects to the Saskatoon Natural Grasslands, Sutherland Beach, Cosmopolitan Park, Rotary Park, Gabriel Dumont Park and Diefenbaker Park.

Both river trails connect to a very popular sightseeing destination in the Meewasin Valley called The Weir. The tumbling whitewater of the river attracts flocks of white pelicans to the region every year to fish the South Saskatchewan River.
