Pike Lake Provincial Park

Pike Lake Provincial Park is a recreation destination, campground, day use picnic site and an attraction located south of the community of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

The Pike Lake Provincial Park was established in 1960. The park is located on the western shore of the lake surrounded by aspen and poplar trees. However, the lake is not a lake but in fact a flood plain of the South Saskatchewan River which looks like a lake.

The Pike Lake Provincial Park is a popular developed park with lots of extras. It includes two day use areas, two sandy beaches, a large full service campground, boat rentals, boat launch (10 hp motors only), walking trails, concession, a general store, a large playground and a waterslide and outdoor pool attraction.

During the summer the park is very busy and reservations are a good idea. Some of the activities enjoyed in and near the park during the summer months include birdwatching, camping, kayaking, canoeing, biking, boating, swimming, golfing, and picnicking.

The facilities onsite provide more opportunities for activity and group events. There are some group campsites, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, a baseball field, volleyball courts and a miniature golf course and a real golf course nearby.

There are also other amenities provided by the provincial park like washrooms, showers, change rooms, a parks office and a sani dump.

There are two large day use areas ( Shady Lane and Pine Point ) in the Pike Lake Provincial Park - each with picnic tables and fire pits. The picnic sites are located near the main sandy beach and parking lot. Pine Point Day Use Area is on the shores of Pike Lake while Shady Lane Day Use Area is tucked away in a grove of trees.

There are two sandy beaches in the Saskatoon, Sask. park. The main beach, near the parking lot, is the busier beach. There is a swimming area and paddle boat, canoe and kayak rentals but no lifeguard. A smaller sandy beach providing more privacy is located at the north end of the park.

There are two walking trails in the park. The promenade boardwalk path is located near the Pine Point Day Use Area and the main sandy beach. It is an easy-going, short 500 metre pathway leading to a couple of lookout platforms looking out over Pike Lake. There are sightseeing benches and information signs. The path is wheelchair and baby stroller friendly.

The second trail in the park is the Gift of Green Nature Trail. It is a wilderness trail which begins near the campground office. It is a 1.5-km loop hiking trail which explores a grove of aspen trees, short-grass prairie fields and some sand dunes.
