The Ausable River Valley Trail offers a journey through one of Ontario's lush Carolinian forest regions in Parkhill, Ontario, Canada. The trail begins with a well marked path, winding along the Ausable River. The first part of the hike leads through a section of tall trees,
Mystery Falls
The highlight of the journey was reaching Mystery Falls, a secluded waterfall tucked deep in the forest. Mystery Falls was about 5 metres high and had a deep overhanging rock ledge. We took a moment to sit on a nearby bench to relax and take in the beauty of the waterfall.
Wildlife
As we continued our hike, we did not spot any wildlife on our Ausable River Valley Trail hike, but we saw evidence of small animals like chipmunks, squirrels and birds. In higher water, it is likely that one might be able to spot fish in parts of the Ausable River.
Parking
Parking for the Ausable River Valley Trail and Mystery Falls can be found at a small lot off of Elm Tree Road. in Parkhill, Ontario, Canada. The lot had a map, a porta potty, and room for a few cars.

Take Main Street / County Road 81 west out of town.
Continue to Sylvan Road (County Road 7).
Drive south on Sylvan Road for about 5 km.
Turn right (west) onto Elm Tree Drive.
Follow Elm Tree Drive to the end, where you’ll see signage for Mystery Falls and a small parking lot on the right-hand side.
