In the early 1960's, a group of railway enthusiasts got together to brainstorm on how to preserve the history of the railway on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada. By 1990, the group had purchased some historical railway equipment and heritage housing. It was soon later that the railway association started looking for land so to operate a railway museum honoring the history of the railroad.
Today, the West Coast Railway Heritage Museum is located on 12 acres near the Village of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. The park museum buildings are either, genuine heritage buildings or reproductions so to create an atmosphere conducive to the railway era. The Silver Fox Passenger Loading Bay, the Brightbill Heritage House, the many restored railcars and steam trains.. all set the stage and tell the story of the pioneers who paved the way riding the rails.
Many of the railway cars on display in the park are from the early 1930's to 1950's. Most have been restored and are open for viewing at your own leisure. The park is also the home base for the Royal Hudson Steam Train. A historical train in British Columbia because it was one of the original steam trains in the region. This train transported goods and people from North Vancouver to Squamish in its hey-day.
The Squamish, BC, Canada park can also be viewed by riding the miniature train which gives you a short tour of the grounds and an opportunity to ride the rails.
