Squamish, BC, Canada, Britannia Beach - Once a resource community, Britannia Beach, was home of one of Canada's largest mines. At that time it was the largest producer of copper in the British Empire.

The isolated mine extracted ore from the surrounding mountains and extracted copper from the waste rock. It was a major employer in the area during its peak time of operations.

The mine operated for 70 years from 1904 - 1974. The Townsite of Britannia Beach grew around the mine. For many years boating was the only transportation connecting the mine with civilization.

The large building built into the side of the mountain that is in view today is recognized as a National Historic Site by the Canadian Government in 1987.

Today the mine operates as a museum. There are regular guided tours visiting mining equipment, machinery and tools.
