The spit is a boating, beachcombing and kayaking destination accessing a magnificent, magical sandy beach, tidal flats, inland ponds and salt marshes - all surrounded by forest and marine activity.

The island is one of the few in the Gulf Islands Archipelago which is largely undeveloped. From the Sidney Spit and Sidney Island visitors can see breathtaking views of the Olympic Mountains, Mount Baker and the Cascade Mountains. The activity on the water is busy as well as sailboats, yachts, kayaks cruise back and forth in front of the beach.

Sidney Spit Marine Park is part of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. The spit is a long sand bar and marine park measuring over 223 hectares (551 acres) of foreshore and over 177 hectares (437 acres) of upland landscape highlighted by a seamlessly endless white sandy beach.

The Spit is home to many more activities besides kayaking, beachcombing and boating. One can also plan for endless hours sailing, scuba diving, fishing. hiking and bird watching. It not uncommon to see Bald Eagles in the air and Blue Herons inland at one of the ponds. And then there are the songbirds.
