Morrell Nature Park

The Morrell Nature Park is located in the community of Nanaimo, BC on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The 113 hectare (278 acres) birdwatching and hiking trail park includes a lake, beaver pond, hiking trails, lookout platforms, marshes and plenty of second growth forest.

The Nanaimo park is a very popular recreation and wildlife viewing destination because of its size and easy accessibility.  The Nanaimo park includes over 11 kilometres of hiking and walking trails. The paths explore a second growth forest consisting of consists of arbutus , western red cedar and Douglas Fir trees, Morrell Lake and a beaver Pond.  

The trail system in the Morrell Nature Sanctuary Park is extensive. Extensive meaning variety not distance. Many of the hiking trails are less than 2 kilometres long. However, all are well maintained and considered easy grade walking trails with very few hills.

The hiking trails follow along either a gravel, wood chip, boardwalk or stone pathway. Lake. The trails in the park include the Morrell Lake (1 kilometre), Alder (1 kilometre), Maple (0.5 Kilometre), Tranquility, Lookout, Hydro, Yew, Rocky Knoll | Beaver Pond Trails (3 kilometres) and a Service Road.

Along the trails are picnic shelters, picnic tables, viewing benches, lookout platforms and pit toilets. Birdwatching lookout platforms and viewing areas are located on the Beaver Pond and on Morrell

How To Get ToMorrell Nature Park

Travel the Nanaimo Parkway (Hwy #19) to the community of Nanaimo , BC on Vancouver Island. Look for Exit 16 turning onto 5th Street. Take the exit and continue to Wakesiah Ave and take a right. Continue driving on Wakesiah Ave and to Harewood Road. Take a right. Travel under the highway underpass and look to your right for the park sign.
