Trout Lake is a popular mountain biking, off roading, hikiing and horseback riding area located north west of Sechelt, BC closest to the community of Halfmoon Bay, B.C. and Pender Harbour on the lower section of the Sunshine Coast. The trail system is diverse with many off-shoot trails leading the explorer to some great views of lakes, mountains and rivers while exploring forests.

Trout Lake is 1,650 ft. elevation, so some climbing is involved. Although many discover Trout Lake for biking and off roading, there are hikers and horseback riders also on the trail route, so keep the head up to avoid collisions and be respectful to all who enjoy the route.

Trout Lake loop trail is approximately 15 km (9.3 mi.) long which would take 4-5 hours round trip to complete on a mountain bike. If you stay on the main trail and minimize exploring the many offshoot biking and hiking trails the timing should be good. But it is easy to get distracted and spend a whole day on the trials.

The main trail, Little Knives Trail (aka Trout Lake Trail) is marked by biking symbols and yellow paint markers to lead the way. Little Knives Trail may be the main trail , but there are others to explore like the Redrooffs in the south and Shakecutters, Hydroline, Crowston, Wormy Lake, and the Microwave Tower mountain biking trails to the north.

The Trout Lake main trail route starts at the parking lot. From there head north down Hwy 101 for about 200 metres (650 ft.) and turn right onto a logging road. Follow the logging road route for about 2 km (1.2 mi.) to the Halfmoon Bay Forest Service Road junction. Stay right and follow the road 1.6 km (1 mi.) to another fork in the road, turn right here. Follow gravel road for 2 km (1.2 mi.) steer right and stay on the road for 7 km (4.3 mi.). From there the trail returns back to the highway. Turn right back to Trout Lake.
