Deception Falls Trail is a short, steep hiking trail leading to a fenced viewpoint, high up on a ridge, offering up views of a cascading waterfall in a deep forested canyon. The popular hiking trail neighbours Mahood Lake which is located in Wells Gray Provincial Park, east of 100 Mile House, British Columbia, Canada.
The 0.8 kilometre route is a narrow path exploring uphill hidden under a forest cover. The pine needle cushioned path follows a set of small switchbacks up the hill. The route is lined with dead fall trees, some have fallen across the path, and the forest floor is layered in sheets of moss covered in decaying tree branches.
The narrow one-way road to the Deception Falls trailhead is tricky as it follows the banks of Mahood Lake. Make note of the pull outs along the road as you drive to the trailhead as they are to be used to make room for when meeting oncoming traffic. There is a 3 car pull out at the trailhead used for parking.
Some of the other trails in the area that provide some wilderness scenery include the Canim River, Whale Lake and the Canim-Mahood Waterfalls Trail. Also in the area are many lakes for fishing, canoeing, camping and boating. A few of the bigger lakes in the region include the Canim, Deka, Horse and Mahood Lakes.
