Norbury Lake Provincial Park is a prime location for a bevvy of outdoor camping activities like hiking, walking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating and birdwatching in BC Canada. The park is a recreation destination located southeast of the community of Cranbrook, BC in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. The park fronts two lakes and is, both, a campground and day use park with views of the Steeples Mountain Range.
Two Lakes in Norbury Provincial Park
Norbury Provincial Park is 97 hectares and is situated on the shores of Norbury Lake. North of Norbury Lake is Peckham's Lake. Both fall within park boundaries. The entire park was established to protect the wildlife and sensitive habitat of the area and around the lakes.
Eco Systems of the Park
The park is home to many eco systems. Near Peckham's Lake the tree cover mostly consists of western larch and lodgepole pine trees. The ground cover is decorated with thimbleberry and chokeberry bushes. Wildlife visiting the park include elk, deer, bear and bighorn sheep.
Norbury Lake Trails
There are two walking trails in Norbury Lake Provincial Park. One short loop trail connects the campground to the shores of Norbury Lake. Another trail connects the campground to the picnic area on Peckham's Lake and a roof top boat launch. This trail provides an opportunity to view some of the protected habitat in the park.
Camping and Campgrounds
The campground in the park is a small one with only 48 campsites. Each campsite enjoys picnic tables and a fire pit. There are pit toilets in the campground. However there are no sani station or showers. The campground connects to the sandy beach and day use area via a short walking trail.
Day Use Area at Norbury Park
The day use area includes a large floating pier, sandy beach, pit toilets, roof top boat launch and picnic tables hidden in trees and some out in the open exposed to the sun. No motorized boats permitted on lake.
