Ruckle Provincial Park is a gem of a park located on the waterfront of Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada. Salt Spring is part of the southern Gulf Islands Group on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada. The park is a popular adventure and sightseeing destination with marine views overlooking Swanson Channel.
Ruckle Provincial Park was established in 1974. It is over 480 hectares in size and includes a waterfront that stretches out along the coastline for over 7 kilometres. The rocky coastline extends from the heritage farm all the way to Yeo Point.
From the shoreline there are plenty of opportunities to view marine wildlife. There are sea birds and mammals. Some of the wildlife spotted include whales, sea lions, seals, minks, otters, and deer. Some of the birding opportunities in the park include cormorants, grebes, guillemots, eagles, grouse and quails.
During low tides the rocky headland is exposed revealing tidal pools full of marine life. Some of the tidal pool life includes crabs, mussels, limpets, oysters, sculpins and colorful purple and orange starfish.
There are many activities enjoyed in Ruckle Provincial Park on Salt Spring Island. Some of the more popular activities include hiking, camping, birdwatching, picnicking, swimming, ocean kayaking, fishing, wind surfing, on-leash dog walking and scuba diving.
The camping in the park is waterfront and epic. There are walk-in campsites with waterfront views and forest views. There is a fee to camp in this park. There are pit toilets and picnic tables with fire pits. However there is no power, showers or sani station.
The hiking in the park is varied. There are 15 kilometres of easy and difficult hiking trails. Some of the trails follow the ocean coastline while others explore a second growth forest - some do both. The coastline trails follow over flat rock, sand and gravel. The forest trails are dirt with exposed tree roots and rocks. The trail system in the park is well marked with trail signs and markers.
The most popular sightseeing trail is the waterfront route following the coastline from the heritage farm to Yeo Point. The waterfront trail enjoys allot of marine activity. There are views of sailboats, yachts, ferries, barges and fishing boats. Closer to shore you may come across some kayakers and wind surfers.
There is a day use area with picnic tables and fire pits on the waterfront. There is a parking fee for day use visitors.

How to Get Here: Ruckle Provincial Park is accessed by BC Ferry in Victoria and Crofton on Vancouver Island. From Upper Ganges Road follow the signs to the Village of Ganges. From the village continue south on the Fulford Ganges Road to Cusheon Lake Road. Continue on Cusheon Lake to Stewart Road. Stewart Road turns into Beaver Point Road. Stay on the road. Follow Beaver Point Road to the park.
