Waskasoo Park

The Mckenzie Trail Recreation Area is an activity and picnic destination located in the community of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada The park is part of a larger park and trail network in Red Deer called Waskasoo Park.

.The site of the park was once a gravel pit operation. Through years of hard work the community of Red Deer, Alberta has transformed the area into parkland and greenspace.

Today the site it is a picnic day use area and a place for outdoor activity. Some of the activities enjoyed in the park include walking, birdwatching, jogging, picnicking and biking.

The day use area is very large and located near the pond in the park. There are picnic tables, washrooms and a picnic shelter.

Nearby there is a playground for children to play and a canoe launch for fishing and canoeing on the Red Deer River. Along the river in the park are sightseeing benches for birdwatching and sightseeing.

To the south of the McKenzie Trail Recreation Area is the Gaetz Sanctuary and to the north, on the opposite side of the Red Deer River, is the Three Mile Bend Recreation Area.

The McKenzie Recreation Area and the Gaetz Sanctuary are connected by the 7 kilometre South Bank Trail which follows the Red Deer River and begins at the Heritage Ranch and ends at the McKenzie Trail Recreation Area. There are information signs and a trail map at the trailhead.
