Cochrane Ranch Historic Site is a historical timeline and sightseeing destination located in the community of Cochrane, Alberta in the Southern Alberta region of Canada.

Cochrane, Alberta, Canada photo galleryThe Cochrane Ranch Historic Site and the Cochrane Ranch House share the same grounds. The historic site is exactly that - a historical snapshot into the past of Cochrane. The ranch house, on the other hand, is an administrative building... as well as, a theatre and an event complex.

It is here, above the Bow River, where Senator Matthew Cochrane enjoyed the view from "Big Hill" so much so that he settled in the area and established one of the largest cattle ranches at that time . called the Cochrane Ranche.

Unfortunately... unseasonal harsh winters and poor planning resulted in the operation failing and ultimately moving the operation to the Waterton Lakes area. However... the senator made an impression on the area and soon later the region fast became known as Cochrane, Alberta.

The Cochrane Ranch Historical Site is a day use park with large grass lawns, a walking trail, a picnic area, historical artifacts, an information centre, outdoor stage and washrooms.

Decorating the large, green grass lawns are a few historical artifacts, a corral and a pioneer log cabin.

Connecting the dots of the park is an interpretive walking trail with information signs. The signs and billboards tell the story of Cochrane and help explain some of the displays.
