The Best Places to Get Out and Play in Nova Scotia

Have Fun and Stay Warm Enjoying Our Canadian Winters

Indoor Fun in Halifax and Dartmouth - With the chilly weather creeping in, it's getting harder and harder to find fun activities for those of us who just can't hack those Canadian winters (or maybe just want to escape the cold for one day). This year, I am doing my best to get outside and enjoy the Canadian winter, however sometimes you just want a day inside. For those in and around Halifax, there are plenty of awesome options to get out and play this winter without ever touching a flake of snow!

Fun in Halifax Started at the Playdium

Mario Kart at Playdium Dartmouth Crossing

Arcade, Bowling, and Virtual Reality

Playdium is a newer addition to the Dartmouth Commons and is the perfect place for a date night or some epic family fun. When you enter, it might look like you are just walking into an arcade, but Playdium is so much more than that! Although the arcade is pretty epic, with a sprawling floor of games of all types, you can also hop into a virtual reality rig or play a string or two of 10-pin bowling. Therefore, there are packages for all levels of play, family discounts, and occasional special offers. Furthermore, all of your credits are loaded onto a convenient wristband, and the best part is if you don't use all of your credits you can always bring back your wristband and play more another day!

Halimac Axe Throwing in Halifax

Nova Scotia

Competitive Fun While Throwing Sharp Objects

If you've never been axe throwing, now is the time to start! While leagues are available and you could certainly make a weekly outing of it, you'll also have fun trying axe throwing as a one-off outing (though I bet you'll want to go back as soon as possible). Upon arrival, you can grab a beer, sign a waiver and get down to business, with instruction by trained coaches. Coaches are even on hand to organize a mini tournament for your group, so you can even bring your most competitive buddies. Halimac one of the best places for indoor fun in Halifax and Dartmouth, especially if you have a competitive streak of need to work out some angst!

The Boardroom Café

The Boardroom

Over 500 Games with Great Food and Drinks

It's possible I'm a bit biased because we are a family who loves boardgames but this is a place that we make a point of it to hit up every single time we visit Nova ScotiaIf you like board games, The Boardroom is definitely the outing for you. As Nova Scotia's first board game café, the boardroom has made a name for itself in the gaming community for its huge and ever-expanding selection of games, great retail space, and awesome menu of food and drinks. If you're thinking of making your way out , you may want to make a reservation, as this is a popular location for date nights and groups of students. While drop ins are welcome, getting a spot without calling ahead is never a guarantee. The Boardroom is also a great option for families, as all ages are welcome and their collection boasts a plethora of games for all ages and gaming styles!

 Woodside Bowlarama

Cosmic Bowling at Woodside Bowlarama

Six Locations Across the Maritimes

Bowling is definitely a hit of nostalgia for me and most of that centers around Bowlarama in Dartmouth. I have many fond memories of bowling with my family as a child. Later, as a teen, renting out several lanes for a day and inviting every friend I had to come bowl with me. And, of course, bowling with my own children as an adult. Tucked away just inside the Woodside Industrial Park, the Woodside Bowlarama is a hidden gem when it comes to fun. Here - and at their other five locations across the Maritimes - you can play a string of candlepin bowling, play at the arcade, get some food and drinks. If you're lucky, you can even secure a spot for cosmic bowling nights, where blacklights, lasers, and music compliment your bowling night out!

Fun in Halifax and Dartmouth

While this is certainly not an exhaustive list of all of the best indoor fun in Halifax and Dartmouth, it is certainly a start based on some of my favourites! I hope you have fun out exploring some of the fun places to play in the HRM!

Lots of choices! Love board game cafés. There’s a great one in Kensington (Calgary, Alberta) with a host of collaborative games (like the idea of sharing the win… or loss!)
